Solid dispersions of quercetin-PEG matrices: Miscibility prediction, preparation and characterization

Quercetin is a bioflavonoid compound with low water solubility in both foods and the gastrointestinal tract, which limits exploitation of its health-promoting properties. This study aims to formulate solid dispersions (SDs) quercetin hydrophilic polyethylene glycol PEG matrices, using melt-mixing method, improve dissolution antioxidant activity quercetin. Initially, total Gibbs free energy for different binary mixtures was modelled predict miscibility compounds. Then, physicochemical properties formulated SDs were characterised tests measurements performed vitro evaluate improved profiles developed. The group contribution methods Hoy Van Krevelen Hoftyzer, used parameter calculations, presented suitable prediction interaction behaviour. results suggested presence amorphous precipitates crystalline matrix 4000 6000, formation an SD between 1000. These formulations achieved good radical scavenging better dissolution, especially quercetin-PEG 1000 SDs.
